Frequently Asked Questions

Do I/we require a support crew?

Yes. All entrants require a support crew and vehicle. Whilst entrants can get away with just one support crew member, we recommend a two-person support crew for ease of carrying equipment and gear to and from transitions and the support vehicle, plus the benefit of mutual support/company for one another.  This is especially important for the multisport tandem team event where double kayaks and two mountain bikes need to be carried. Relay teams of three can get away with supporting one another.

Can we get away with just one support vehicle?

Yes – Provided your vehicle can carry all the entrants (individual or teams) equipment and gear, plus safely seat all support crew.

Are spectators welcome?

Yes. Family and friends are welcome at the GOLDRUSH event start & finish line, anywhere there is publicly accessible viewing of course, and the awards ceremony. Spectators, however, are not prohibited from entering defined event transition areas, and assisting or impeding the progress of entrants anywhere on course.

Do we have to carry all our race food and water on course?

Yes. All entrants will need to carry all their food and electrolytes requirements on each stage of the event. Support crew can replenish entrants’ energy & hydration supplies at each transition area. Entrants are otherwise prohibited from receiving outside assistance out on course. Stowing food and water out on course is also against the rules of the event and fair play in the sport.

Where do we find the compulsory gear list?

You can find the compulsory gear list under the Equipment Required & Compulsory Gear page on this website.

Does the runner have to swim the rivers on Day 1 & 2 offroad run stages?

No. A runner may opt not to swim the river on the off-road run stage on Day 1 and Day 2 and instead opt to be ferried across the river by boat. If they chose to be ferried across by boat, the runners bib number will be recorded, and a 10-minute adjustment will be added to their stage time for each crossing where assistance is provided.

What are some examples of floatation which can be carried on the off-road run stages for the river swims?

Here are a few means of possible additional floatation runners may like to carry with them on the off-road run stages with river swims sections.

            - Water wings
            - Inflatable life vest

What are some examples of (non-motorised) propelling equipment which can be carried on the off-road run stages for the river swims?

            - Flippers

No, unless medical exception is granted for a Multisport tandem team member.  E-mountain bikes are prohibited in individual and relay teams events.  Only one half of a tandem team with a valid medical reason may request prior approval from event management to use an e-mountain bike. Should a tandem team entrant be granted the ability to use an e-mountain bike, they are prohibited to tow their tandem teammate.

Is towing allowed in the multisport tandem team category?
